Taking a Walk: Development of Photography

A quiet Sunday is the opportune moment to take the time to go somewhere peaceful. At the moment, this place for me is Setting Dyke, it's a local green space that isn't far from home, but it's quiet and takes you away from the estate of houses and into nature. Elliot and I like to take our dog Kas here; he loves to frolick through the grass and explore the various nooks and crannies in the trees. It's nice when we don't have any major plans to have somewhere to go nearby to get away from reality for a while, and of course, I took my camera! We've been here a few times so far since I initially purchased my camera, and I feel like I can already see the way my photography is developing into my own style. Figuring out the camera in this kind of setting gives me lots of different ways to play around, there's open green spaces with lots of light, more shadowed areas under the canopy of trees and lots of interesting subject matter: Bugs, birds, flowers, weeds and so on!

I think at this point I was still trying to figure out what I wanted to shoot, everything either looks really flat, too dark, over saturated, or the contrast is too jarring, but photos and practice are what learning photography is all about! The more practice you get in, the more opportunities you have to play with, and it definitely shows what a difference just a few weeks can make! Below are my most recent pics from Setting Dyke.

Clearly, from these images, I prefer a warmer yet darker tone, and I think this works really nicely on the subject matter I like to photograph. I actually got an extended wide-angle lens and a new macro lens for my camera, which I am certainly taking full use of. I'm really enjoying how this is all developing!

We ended this day with the most beautiful sunset, which just had to be included here. I am the biggest fan of a dramatic sky!
